Yankees hit road after winning series against Rays
The New York Yankees won their final series of the homestand despite a rough Sunday outing from Michael Pineda. Jacoby Ellsbury was the hero Friday and Brett Gardner’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth Saturday aided Masahiro Tanaka’s seven-inning, two-run effort.
The Yankees (7-10) open a three-game series versus the Texas Rangers (10-9) Monday night as they begin part a nine-game road trip. The Yankees will miss Cole Hamels on his regularly scheduled day due to a groin strain. The Yankees will still face two left-handed starters at the front and backend of the series. The Yankees will counter with Nathan Eovaldi on Monday, Luis Severino on Tuesday and CC Sabathia in Wednesday's finale.
The Yankees have lost eight of their last 11 games and need to win four of their next five games to finish April at .500. Considering how they have been playing, getting back to the .500 mark would be some kind of feat and would surely require better efforts across the board, but the Yanks especially need a resurgence from their stagnant offense.
